# Typography

## Purpose

Typefaces, scale, weights, line heights and usage.

## Decisions

| Role | Typeface |
|---|---|
| Body / UI text | Noto Sans |
| Headings / display | Noto Sans Display |
| Monospace / code | Noto Sans Mono |

**Scale principle:** There is a single default text size. Title sizes are defined as ratios relative to that default, not as fixed values. The ratios may differ between desktop and mobile.

### Scale

- **Base (body) size:** 16px with a 24px line height, used for reading and documentation.
- **Heading ratio:** 1.125, each level one step above the next, rounded to whole pixels.

| Level | Size |
|---|---|
| H1 | 29px |
| H2 | 26px |
| H3 | 23px |
| H4 | 20px |
| H5 | 18px |
| H6 | 16px |

- **Three text sizes for body and interface text:** 16/24 (reading and descriptions), **14/20** (buttons, fields, menu items, tables, tabs), and **12/16** (tags, captions, helper text, timestamps).
- **Mobile:** the same 1.125 ratio and the same sizes as desktop.

## Specimen

_Specimen sizes are for display only and are not part of the scale._
